What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is the process of using a concentrated beam of light (laser) to safely target and destroy hair follicles to eliminate hair growth in particular areas of the face and body. This is done without damaging the surrounding skin or tissue.
For women, the most common areas we treat are the:
- Legs
- Underarms
- Bikini area
- Face
For men, typical treatment areas include the:
- Back
- Legs
- Arms
- Chest
- Face
Am I A Good Candidate For Laser Hair Removal?
Individuals seeking a long-term solution to hair reduction are the best candidates for laser hair removal. Patients must also have realistic expectations. Those with dark, coarse, and thick hair usually see the most dramatic results. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should postpone until a later date, and those with active skin infections in the treatment area(s) may need to wait until they resolve.
The Procedure
During a laser hair removal session, a licensed medical aesthetician will place the laser directly on the skin where the hair resides. Most patients report feeling a light stinging or popping sensation.
The laser energy is delivered to the skin to target the melanin in the hair. During this process, the follicles absorb the heat from the laser, which damages them and makes it difficult for the hair to regrow.
Most patients are able to achieve results in a 30-45 minute session. Since the treatment only affects hair follicles in the growing stage, multiple sessions (6-8) are required. Appointments are scheduled once every 4-6 weeks over the course of several months.
The Recovery Process
The recovery period following laser hair removal is minimal, allowing most patients to return to normal activities immediately. The treated area(s) might appear slightly red or feel like a mild sunburn, but these effects usually subside within a few hours.
Hair will shed naturally over the following weeks. Avoid plucking or waxing between sessions, though gentle shaving is permitted.

Laser Hair Removal FAQs
Should I shave before treatment?
Yes, we usually recommend shaving the night before or morning of your appointments. This allows the laser to effectively target the hair follicles while preventing surface hair from absorbing the laser energy and causing unnecessary discomfort.
What happens if I miss an appointment?
Consistency is important for optimal results. Missing one appointment won't ruin your progress, but significant delays may necessitate adjustments to your treatment plan.
