The Dos and Don’ts Before and After Your Botox® Appointment

Botox® is a popular non-surgical treatment used to smooth dynamic facial lines and forehead creases by relaxing the underlying muscles. While the procedure is quick and minimally invasive, proper preparation and aftercare can help you achieve the strongest possible results.

Creating Your Botox® Treatment Plan

At Fort Worth MedSpa, our Botox® treatments are performed by certified aesthetic injectors and aesthetic nurse injectors under the expert supervision of board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Robert G. Anderson and Dr. Tony Daniels. Your journey begins with a consultation, where we’ll assess your facial muscle activity, discuss your cosmetic goals, and determine the best injection sites.

At this time, we’ll also provide you with detailed before and aftercare instructions, including the following (unless otherwise directed):

Do Prepare for Your Botox® Appointments

Leading up to your treatment:

  • Do avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements like aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and Vitamin E for 7-10 days. These can increase the risk of bruising. If you take any prescribed medications, consult your injector before stopping them.
  • Do stay hydrated and eat a balanced meal on the day of your appointment. This helps prevent dizziness and lightheadedness.
  • Do arrive with a clean face. Remove any makeup, skincare products, or lotions before your treatment. You may shower before coming in.
  • Do plan your schedule thoughtfully. Mild redness or swelling may occur, so it’s best to avoid major events immediately after your appointment.

Don’t Consume Alcohol and Caffeine or Overheat Your Skin Before Treatment

Certain habits can increase side effects or interfere with your results. To ensure a smooth experience:

  • Don’t drink alcohol or caffeine for at least 24 hours before your appointment, as they can increase the likelihood of bruising and swelling.
  • Don’t use tanning beds or saunas before your session. These can irritate the skin and make the treated area more sensitive.

Do Follow Post-Botox® Aftercare for the Best Results

After your procedure, taking the right precautions will help you enjoy smoother, longer-lasting results. Keep these key aftercare tips in mind:

  • Do use a cold compress, if needed, to minimize mild swelling or redness at the injection sites.
  • Do stay upright for at least four hours after treatment; avoid lying down immediately.
  • Do follow up with your provider if you have concerns about your results or notice any unusual side effects.

Don’t Touch or Rub the Treated Area After Botox®

To protect your results:

  • Don’t rub, touch, or massage the treated areas for at least 24 hours.
  • Don’t sleep face-down the first night to minimize unnecessary pressure on the injection sites.
  • Don’t engage in intense exercise for 24 hours in order to allow the formula to settle.
